The charity making life better by water

Rods at the ready for new fishing permit website

We have launched a new online system allowing anglers to purchase a Waterways Wanderers Permit giving them access to 300 miles of angling across our waterways.

The permit, which costs £20 per year, is available online at our licensing site. Previously available by post or phone, the new online option is a quick and accessible way for anglers to purchase the permit.

John Ellis, national fisheries and angling manager at the Canal & River Trust, comments: “It's great that anglers can now purchase a Waterways Wanderers Permit at any time of day and any day of the year. We've got some of the best coarse fishing in the country and experienced and budding anglers alike can access 300 miles of our canals and rivers.

Angling appeals to a wide cross-section of society. At £20, the Permit is a really good value way for people to try out the sport for the first time. Angling club members may be interested in testing the waters of a new stretch when they're on holiday, while many will like the freedom of being able to fish in a different spot every weekend. The money we receive goes back into caring for the canals and rivers for the benefit of everyone, so we ask that all those who fish on the waterways buy the relevant permit.

“We know that life is better by water and that spending time by the water is good for your mental and physical wellbeing. We hope by making it so easy to purchase a Permit we can encourage more people to take up this wonderful sport.”
