Get cameras ready for new waterway photographic competition

We are launching a new photographic competition aimed at capturing the beauty of the Kennet & Avon and Bridgwater & Taunton canals.

Bridge over canal

The competition is looking for imaginative and evocative photographs that depict “Life on the Waterways” across the region which can be used by the Canal & River Trust to promote and showcase the beauty of the waterways.

This free competition is being sponsored by photography retailer Jessops in Bath, and keen snappers can include any image they want from the Kennet & Avon or Bridgwater canals.

The waterways provide a vibrant colourful backdrop and we are looking for images that show the variety of the waterways. Pictures could be anything from beautiful waterscapes, iconic images of our 200-year-old locks and bridges or shots of the huge variety of wildlife that flutter and buzz along the waterways.

The competition is open to everyone aged 18 and over. The winner and runner up of the competition will receive a canvas print of their image as well as being able to choose from a range of gifts online and instore at Jessops.

The competition opens on Monday 1st May, and the closing date for entries is Monday 5 June and the winners will be announced shortly afterwards.

Caroline Robson, from the Canal & River Trust, said: “Our canals are beautiful places to visit and work along but there are some people who have never experienced the wonders of region's waterways before. We want these pictures to really show off to the rest of the country how great the Kennet & Avon and Bridgwater canals are and ultimately get them to come and visit or lend their time to help volunteer to keep them looking great.”
