The chain's store in Stratford-Upon-Avon has donated kitchen cupboards and worktops to the team, who work on behalf of the Canal & River Trust. Once installed, the volunteers, who help keep boaters moving through the locks on the Stratford Canal, will have a kitchen area and somewhere comfortable to spend their rest breaks.
Paul Roache, volunteer for the Canal & River Trust, said: “I'm touched that B&Q have made this wonderful donation and helped us fit out our volunteer hut. We were all devastated when it burnt down but thanks to the generosity of our local B&Q branch, we will soon have the hut fully open, just in time for the summer holiday season.”
Simon Liddell from B&Q, said: “When we heard what had happened to the volunteer hut at Wilmcote we wanted to try and help get the volunteers back on their feet. Donating this kitchen furniture will hopefully mean that that the volunteers working for the Canal & River Trust will have somewhere to grab a cup of tea and shelter from the weather.”
