The Lord Mayor of Leeds hosted a Thank You event for volunteers from across the city

As part of Leeds City Council Volunteering events, the Lord Mayor hosted a Thank You event for volunteers at the Civic Hall on Thursday 14th May.

Each volunteer involving organisation in Leeds was able to invite two volunteers to the event, and to ensure fairness, the good old ‘name out of the hat’ technique was used.

Our two volunteer representatives were Diana from Woodlesford in Bloom, and Geoff who is a volunteer lock keeper, Explorer volunteer and has also volunteered with the Environment Team on our recent discharge survey.

Geoff gives an overview of the evening;

“The evening was very nice starting with a speech from the Lord Mayor, Councillor David Congreve, followed by a photo opportunity and chat with him and his wife (Janet). The buffet was followed by a speech from the Chief Executive of Leeds City Council and then we played mingling bingo, a game were you had to find other people to gain answers and good fun. A thoroughly good night, thanks for inviting me.”

Amanda is a volunteer coordinator for the Technical Team within the Trust. Whether it’s finding a student for a long-term placement with the environment team or assisting the hydrology team with a team of volunteers to count boat movements, she can be counted on to find the right people for the role. Amanda joined the Trust in July 2012 and previously worked as the Volunteer Leader in the East Midlands. She has worked at other charities in people engagement roles, but is at her happiest besides the water.
