The charity making life better by water

Meet Richard

Man on his bike

"I'm just on my way home from work. I've cycled along the towpath but have to get off the canal here to head up the hill into Bradford on Avon.

I cycle to work and back every day. I'm an academic, and I lecture in aerospace engineering at Bath University. It's relaxing after a day at work using my brain to be able to switch off and just concentrate on the cycling.

There's the great big hill to climb when I'm going to work in the mornings, pedalling up past Claverton. Thankfully, the journey isn't so bad on my way home, just this small hill now.

The A36 is absolutely horrible for bikes and that's one of the reasons I like cycling on the towpath – it's a joy. I always look forward to this part of the day. Long may the canals be preserved! It's a beautiful thing."
