The charity making life better by water

Meet David & Susan

couple by the water

We're staying at the canalside caravan site, in the lodge, just for a night. It's our wedding anniversary today, 47 years!

This morning we just suddenly decided to come here instead of tackling the painting jobs that need doing on the house! It's gorgeous by the water. And now that we're retired we can be more selfish and just go off and do things when we want. So we thought we'd get away from all the family and everyone!

We've been coming down here for years, sometimes staying longer than we are this time. The canal is lovely and we love walking down this towpath.

We used to live in Oxford and spent time fishing along the canal there, but when we moved to Bampton in west Oxfordshire, the canal was a bit further away. Interestingly, a lot of the filming for the TV programme Downton Abbey was shot in Bampton and tourists still turn up to have a good old look around. One of our daughters lives in an old cottage in the village and she was sitting in her dressing gown one night eating pizza when a tourist pressed their nose on the window to peep in!

Luckily, there aren't any Downton Abbey tourists here! One of the reasons we like coming here is because it's nice and quiet and away from it all.
