We love and care for your canals and rivers, because everyone deserves a place to escape.

Education and school trips

Explorers education workshops are developed by teachers and consultants and are closely linked to the National Curriculum. They are aimed at KS1 & 2 pupils.

A school visit to Standedge Tunnel begins with a picturesque led walk from the coach/train to the visitor centre along the canal towpath. Pupils will learn about water safety on route.

On arrival at the visitor centre, pupils take part in an interactive workshop exploring the history and importance of canals locally. Pupils will also have the unique opportunity to take a boat trip through the historic tunnel.

At the end of their visit, pupils will be escorted along the towpath, learning about local wildlife on their way back to the coach/train.
