We love and care for your canals and rivers, because everyone deserves a place to escape.

Get involved

Did you know it takes a huge team of dedicated and committed volunteers to maintain your waterways heritage? Find out how you can get involved at the National Waterways Museum.

At the heart of our community, we work in partnership with many organisations locally and nationally. But we just couldn’t look after and bring this amazing place alive without our 200 dedicated volunteers.

Here at the museum, many of them, such as our engineering and restoration gang, use their knowledge and skills to help keep our fleet of floating exhibits in tip top condition.

Come along to the museum to talk to the team and hear their tall - and not so tall tales - of working boats on our docks and canals.

How to get involved as a volunteer

Other volunteers help out on our reception desk and shop, aboard our boats, maintaining our internal displays and as part of our education programme for schools and families.

Whatever your interests and experience we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch by calling: 0151 355 5017 or 0151 373 4373.

You can also find out about other volunteering opportunities with the Canal & River Trust by taking a look at our dedicated volunteer pages.
