Canals and rivers offer inspiring ways to bring learning to life. The Canal & River Trust delivers a range of highly regarded learning programmes aimed to inspire and enthuse young people about our wonderful waterways.
Working mainly with primary schools and uniformed groups, the Explorers learning programme aims to 'inspire children's learning by connecting them to our canals and rivers'.
Explorers is highly regarded by teachers and group leaders, largely due to the support of our team of experienced education volunteers, who lead enjoyable and inspiring visits – out on the towpath, in your classroom or club house or at one of our museums. Find out more about becoming an Explorers education volunteer.
Our exciting new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) learning programme is targeted at secondary schools and aims to inspire young people about the many STEM careers available along our waterways.
Developed in partnership with graduates from the Rolls Royce Graduate Scheme, our STEM programme offers free outreach workshops to key stage 3 students. From the hydraulics of boat lifts to the erosion of river banks, STEM along our waterways is limitless.
