The 2018 Montgomery Canal Photographic Exhibition has had a resounding success in Welshpool, and it is now your chance to see it.
This exhibition brings together photographs taken by members of the local community and beyond, as well as pictures covering the restoration including some archive ones.
It contains some great shots of structures and wildlife, as well as showing the mitigation measures that Canal & River Trust have put in place to get authorisation to restore the canal. It also contrasts past and current restoration of the canal being carried out by the Shropshire Union Canal Society volunteers.
The exhibition is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the restoration of the Montgomery canal in Shropshire.
Opening hours: Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri: 9.30am-5.00pm, Weds: 9.30am-6.00pm, Saturday: 9.30am- 4.00pm, closed Sun.
Another great way to enjoy the Montgomery Canal is to watch Life on the Monty, a short film that celebrates the wildlife, people and heritage of this beautiful canal, go to canalrivertrust.org.uk/montgomery, and see if you can spot a young Prince of Wales re-opening the lock in Welshpool in the 1970’s!
