Come along to the second Northwich River Weaver Festival.
Northwich Rotary Club is challenging businesses, clubs and pubs and friends to put together teams to enter the Northwich Dragon Boat Challenge 2018.
For those who would like a less energetic view of the River, Wirral Community Narrowboat Trust will be providing trips aboard its wheelchair-accessible boat – “Over The Rainbow”.
Away from the river, there will be plenty for shopping fans, with an Artisan Market on the Saturday, as well as food and drink, charity and trade stalls throughout the weekend – complimenting the town’s wide range of independent and national stores.
Typhoon & The Pedal Players will be returning to the festival this year after last year’s success. They are an interactive walkabout experience for family audiences using a steampunk inspired cargo bicycle turned into a time machine. The Players have created new, bespoke scripts, songs and sketches inspired by Cheshire's rich salt mine heritage and aims to reconnect communities with their landscape and heritage.
Liverpool Pirate Brethren will also be marauding about the town – so keep hold of your valuables and, if you are attending with your boat, prepare to repel boarders!
The Festival will also have two live stages during the daytime, showcasing a host of different acts including rock, pop and folk, plus dance acts, and, to round-off each day, there will be Pop in The Park – A Tribute to ABBA on Saturday, and Proms in The Park on Sunday – both are evening, ticketed events.
On Sunday 15 July Northwich Rotary Club will also be holding a Duck Race as part of the Festival, which aims to raise funds for its nominated charities.
There will also be a range of exciting events over the two days of the festival. Please check back here for further information in the coming months.
For the first time, raft racing will be taking place on the Sunday - and the Northwich Rotary Club are looking for companies and groups of friends to enter this fun event.
The race will take place on the River Weaver and all the crew must be aged 16 (and over) and be capable swimmers. The cost to enter is £100 per raft, with as many as six people allowed on at a time. Please refer to the website below for full details.
Chairman John Walton said, "The Raft Race will be a fun event, allowing crews to enjoy building their rafts and sailing them. They can also raise sponsorship for the Northwich River Festival charities such as The Alzheimer's Society, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and other rotary charities. We are hoping that at least ten crews will enter."
