Come along to Banbury Lock Open Day and see first hand how we're refurbishing this lock.
The Oxford Canal runs straight through the centre of this historic market town. Visit Banbury lock during its refurb and experience being able to walk along the bottom of the chamber. Speak to our experts about how we tackle removing the massive gates and how each new gate is bespokely made for each individual lock.
Nearby you’ll find the oldest working dry dock in Britain – Tooley’s Boatyard. Its been building and repairing narrowboats since 1790. Tooley's Boatyard will open up their drydock where you will be able to see a blacksmith at work.
Banbury museum is a short walk away and an interesting visit. They will be running children's activities and demonstrating their model lock.
Refreshments will be available from Tooley’s Boatyard, Banbury Museum and the Mill Arts Centre.
Over a few weeks our team of experts will be draining the lock of water to carry out vital repairs. We will completely replace one of the lock gates and crane in a new gate weighing in at 3 tonnes.
Please wear sensible footwear i.e. trainers or flat shoes. Dogs are welcome but will not be allowed in the lock. There will be a space to leave bikes and buggies. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult to go in the lock. Unfortunately, the lock is not suitable for wheelchairs.
