Tewitfield to Lancaster canoe trail

This is one of the most interesting canoe trails on our canals and rivers. You’ll pass some spectacular scenery, coastline and cross some of our favourite aqueducts

Distance: 10.5 miles

Starting out from the picnic area at Tewitfield Marina head south, passing many holiday homes. You’ll then travel through open countryside before reaching the picturesque village of Borwick and its impressive Elizabethan manor.

Two miles on you’ll reach the village of Warton. Past this you’ll be treated to views of the foothills of the Southern Lake District.

Capernwray is up next followed by a small but perfectly formed aqueduct offering views of a good-looking railway viaduct.

The trail then travels through countryside and underneath the M6, eventually following the A6 through Bolton-Le-Sands and onto Hest Bank. Now the canal almost runs you into the sea before diverting around the back of a golf course and onto the magnificent Lune Aqueduct.

You can exit the canal on the right hand side where there is a path back down to the car park.
