Virtual open day on Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal
In Wales we’ve been on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal in Mamhilad, working on structures underneath the bed of the canal, as well as stonework that, itself, is usually hidden beneath the water.
Explore our interactive picture, meet our experts and hear how we care for the wonderful wildlife along the Monmouthsire & Brecon Canal.
Our work reflects original methods to retain the special charm and historic character of our precious structures. You’ll also discover more about the canal and how we’re re-purposing 200-year-old waterways engineering to help protected species.
Earlier this winter a section of the canal was blocked off, the resident fish safely relocated and over 21 million litres of water removed ready for us to work on some of the bridges, culverts and sluices.
This year we’re spending an extra £158k to ensure that the ‘Mon & Brec’ is ready to welcome everyone not just for the next spring but for generations to come.
