Selby Bridges

Selby Bridges

The tidal River Ouse and wharfs at Selby are today still very much an active port, and the area presents an interesting working environment. There are three swing bridges at Selby - two close together on the Great Ouse near the town centre and a third on the Selby Canal, about two hundred yards from its junction with the Great Ouse, again near the town centre.

Selby itself is a busy market town with a profusion of pubs and is famous for its impressive 15th-century Benedictine Abbey - which is open to the public.
