Wakefield Waterfront

Wakefield Waterfront

Wakefield's city centre waterfront on the Calder & Hebble Navigation is the scene of an extensive housing and leisure redevelopment - the Wakefield Waterfront Project. Part of the project involves restoring historic buildings. The grade II listed Calder & Hebble Navigation Warehouse has been restored, and the Phoenix Mill and Victorian Rutland Mill complex are to follow.

The Hepworth Wakefield, a world class gallery and creative arts centre is due to open in May 2011. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is also nearby. The Market Hall offers a wide range of food stalls, including a fishmonger, butcher and baker, Italian-style cafe and African goods. Cookery demonstrations and classes take place at a specially-equipped kitchen station. Wakefield is also on the Trans Penine Trail long-distance walking route.
