The Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal cuts right through the heart of Penkridge, a picturesque market town with much to recommend it.
If you’re in the area on a Wednesday or Saturday the town’s local market is a must-see. People come from miles around to browse the stalls, which sell everything from food to plants and collectibles. The market is just five minute stroll from bridge 86 of the canal making it the perfect place to stock up with provisions if you’re passing through on a boat.
It’s easy to spend a few hours wandering around the town’s 15th and 16th century buildings, browsing through its independent shops and grabbing a bite to eat in one of its many restaurants.
The town is also home to a number of charming pubs, with a couple overlooking the canal. Why not enjoy a drink and a spot of gongoozling at the same time?
