The Swansea Canal Society is a registered Charity. Its aims & objections are to:

1.    promote and encourage the long term sustainability of the Swansea Canal, taking into account social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects - developing projects which preserve and enhance its natural and built environment.

2.   work to maintain and restore the Swansea Canal to create a navigable waterways link from Ystalyfera to Swansea Marina.

3.    undertake a range of educational and interpretive activities which ensure that the Swansea Canal is accessible to its communities & visitors to the area.

The Charity operates in and around the Swansea Canal area from Swansea in the City & County of Swansea to Ystalyfera in Neath Port Talbot and Ystradgynlais in Powys

The volunteers & members have and in some cases regularly carryout:

  • Plant hedgerows and wild
    flower areas.
  • Restored historic structures,
    such as the last surviving lock
    keepers cottage.
  • Repaired bridges and aquaducts.
  • Litterpick throughout the year
    to improve the canal environment.
  • Production of guides and postcards.
  • Provision of exhibitions about The
    Swansea Canal.
  • Raised funds for a feasibility study
    to open up 35 miles of navigable
  • Produced an information panel & flier
    about Ynysmeudwy.
  • Remove Himalayan Balsam annually
