Montgomery Canal SSSI

Montgomery Canal SSSI

The Montgomery Canal within England is designated as a SSSI and is complementary to the larger Welsh section that has been designated as a SAC.

The canal is designated for its aquatic plant community including fan-leaved water-crowfoot and six species of pondweeds. It is considered to be a complementary site to both the Powys section of the canal and the Meres of North Shropshire.

The canal has an interesting reed fringe composed of reed sweet-grass, branched bur-reed, greater and lesser pond sedge, common reed and flowering rush.
