This 20km stretch of canal supports an interesting aquatic plant community characteristic of brackish, eutrophic (nutrient-rich) water, including: brackish water crowfoot short-leaved water starwort, Linton’s pondweed and pointed stonewort. The canal also supports a marginal reed type vegetation dominated by reed sweet grass, branched bur-reed, common reed, greater pond sedge, skullcap and greater tussock-sedge.
