Marple is a charming northern town, rich in reminders of its industrial heritage. The Peak Forest Canal is still very much at the heart of the town. Many family-friendly walking and cycling routes take in part of the canal.
Marple boasts a Scheduled Ancient Monument – the grand, three-arch Marple Aqueduct, which carries the canal over the River Goyt. Marple also boasts a flight of sixteen locks which were restored by the volunteers of the Peak Forest Canal Society during the period 1966 to 1974 culminating in the reopening of the locks and Cheshire Ring.
