We're getting 'Games Ready'

Working with local communities we're working on improving our canals and towpaths to ensure they are 'Games Ready' to welcome the 1.2 million visitors expected to attend the games.

Working with volunteers, we have already started improving our towpaths and access onto our canals.

Along the Tame Valley Canal in Perry Barr a team of volunteers have been busy  hedge laying. Hedge laying improves the overall health of the hedge and allows wildlife to move more freely along the canal.

Along the Coventry Canal we have a team of volunteers who have been helping care for the canal as part of our Community Roots project, which aims to get local people involved with their local canal. Over the last year the group have:

  • Improved access onto the canal for the local community
  • Cleared littering hotspots
  • Working with street artists we've created some grafitti art murals
  • Created a community allotment

On the Grand Union Canal in Leamington Spa we've opened up an access point onto the canal by cutting back trees and bushes.
