We love and care for your canals and rivers, because everyone deserves a place to escape.

As a statutory consultee the Canal & River Trust has a duty to respond and report on certain consultations.

Duty to Respond

As a statutory consultee in England, the Trust has a duty to respond to certain consultations within 21 days of receipt, unless an extension of time for our response is agreed in writing with the person or body seeking advice.

The 21 day deadline will not start until we have received all the information it needs to provide an informed response.

Duty to Report

As a statutory consultee in England, the Trust is required to provide an annual report to the Secretary of State on performance against the duty to respond to certain consultations. Please see here for recent reports.
