Other policy documents and strategies

Organisations may be developing other policy documents and strategies where there is the potential for us and our waterways to contribute to delivering the outcomes.

There are many examples of these documents including:

  • local transport plans
  • local cycling and walking strategies
  • green infrastructure strategies
  • health and wellbeing strategies
  • physical activity strategies
  • local design codes and renewable energy supplementary planning documents

We’re happy to engage on these too.

Example

Transport for Greater Manchester have said “Our ambition for 2040 is to deliver a transport system which makes it much easier for everyone travelling in Greater Manchester to reach a wide range of different destinations and opportunities, and where sustainable transport is a viable and attractive alternative to the car. This long-term strategy will be an essential tool in the journey to reaching that goal”. Policy 9 of the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy (published 2017) states: We will work with partners, including the Canal and River Trust, to enhance green and blue infrastructure to provide a safe and attractive environment for walking and cycling.
