We love and care for your canals and rivers, because everyone deserves a place to escape.

A Transport and Work Act Order (TWA) is a statutory instrument made under the Transport and Works Act 1992 to authorise the construction and operation of new transport infrastructure projects, such as railways, tramways, other guided transport systems, inland waterways and works interfering with the rights of navigation.

It applies to projects not defined as nationally significant infrastructure projects in the Planning Act 2008 and to projects not qualifying for a Hybrid Bill.

The Canal & River Trust actively encourages early involvement with the Promoter at every stage of a TWA Order to ensure that our assets and interests are protected and that any impacts are mitigated.  For example, we made representations regarding the TWA Order for up-grading and extending the Docklands Light Railway in East London.

Please contact the relevant Area Planner to discuss further.
