The Trust is among the UK’s biggest charities, with responsibility for 2,000 miles of canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings. We need wide-ranging alliances across the country to help us protect, maintain and develop this well-used national asset.
Our canals and rivers are used by more people and for a wider variety of purposes than ever before. The Trust needs to keep one eye on future possibilities, while of course preserving the historic and natural environment of our waterways. To that end, we work with a large number of organisations across Britain in the public, private, third and voluntary sectors. It goes without saying that the money we earn is always re-invested in our canals and rivers.
