Canals are cool and we need you to help us spread the word

"Canals are cool and we need you to help us spread the word. Many people don’t appreciate their local waterway or can’t enjoy it because it isn’t in a good state but now we’re here to make a difference and start a Waterways Revolution amongst young people. We believe in the tremendous benefits of the waterways for young people and we just as strongly believe in the benefits that young people can bring for the waterways."

There’s loads of different ways you can get involved such as volunteering in visitor services, conservation and clean-ups, or marketing and PR. See a short film about what our Waterways Action Squad has achieved recently.

What’s in it for you?

Apart from having fun, volunteering with us is a great way to:

  • Gain experience to help you get a job or to get into university
  • Meet new people
  • Discover new places
  • Improve on or learn new skills
  • Make a difference to your community, British wildlife and to the preservation of our heritage.
  • The opportunity to get accreditation and qualifications
  • If you’re a young person already involved in waterways volunteering, let us know so that we can keep you up to date on all of our events and activities, help you to access certificates and awards, and let you know about new and exciting volunteering activities in your area.
