Our workshop staff at Stanley Ferry, who are in the process of fabricating new gates for West Stockwith Lock (for installation in November), have asked the waterway to drain the lock so that they can take some precise measurements on the taper of the quoins (into which the gate sit) as they are misshapen.
They require this to be certain that the gates they are fabricating will be of the correct size as making changes at a later date will cause delays.
In order to avoid disruption to boaters, we have looked closely at the tides times on the day in question and have taken advice from some boaters.
Our proposed hours of work still allow boats to travel through the lock taking advantage of the morning tide and then again after we have completed our works for the late afternoon tide, as they normally would.
