Plant a community garden along the Regent's Canal in Islington

Support Hanover Primary School to plant a community garden alongside the canal in Islington, helping the pupils create an oasis of calm on the towpath.

Regent's Canal

The Regent’s Canal, which cuts straight through the heart of London, celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. The Canal & River Trust needs your support to help a local primary school transform a busy stretch of the towpath in Islington into a community garden.

The Canal & River Trust needs £5,000 to make a lasting difference to this busy stretch of towpath on the Regent’s canal by creating a community garden adjacent to the towpath, with the help of pupils from Hanover Primary School. We are already working with TfL on a towpath calming scheme, designed to make the towpath safer for all users, and creating a green oasis in Islington will encourage visitors to slow down and enjoy their time by the canal.

  • £5 could pay for 12 seedlings
  • £10 could buy a spade for the children to use
  • £20 could pay for a panel of trellis for climbing plants

By making a donation today, you can help us buy the equipment the children will use and the seeds and plants that they will need to set up the garden that they will then maintain. The school is actively planning the project, involving pupils and teachers. The project is in a location where there is a wide towpath and would help us to create a sense of place and make the towpath more pedestrian-friendly.

Sam Thomas, maintenance manager, says: “In Islington, we are working with the great minds at Hanover Primary School to transform a busy part of the Regent’s Canal into a green oasis.  With your help we can turn this stretch of towpath into a bustling community garden that visitors and residents alike can enjoy.”

Support this project now and play your part in creating a calm and peaceful stretch of canal in the heart of London for all to enjoy.

Every penny you give will be spent directly and entirely on this project. When projects are fully funded we will no longer accept donations against it. If for any reason we do raise more than we can spend on this project, your donation will reallocated to similar projects elsewhere on our network.
