The Castle Wharf area is buzzing with bars, nightlife and alfresco dining, all at the water’s edge. It is overlooked by Nottingham Castle, perched dramatically on a high rock above the city.
The canal towpath is a scenic walking and cycling route, connecting different areas of the city. The River Trent flows out into the surrounding countryside and joins the Erewash Canal at the picturesque Trent Lock. This is an important waterway junction and a great place for a family day out, to spot wildlife and watch the boats go by.
The Attenborough Nature Reserve is beside the River Trent just outside Nottingham. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, made up of a series of flooded gravel pits that attract a host of water-loving plants and wildlife. The River Trent also connects to the Grantham Canal to the south of the city.
